When is georgetown graduation

More information will be provided in the coming weeks. Visit the SCS Commencement website for more information. We are transitioning to a new system for applications to the Spring term and later.

Please select the term of your application:. The School of Continuing Studies has resumed regular operations effective August 16 at the Massachusetts Avenue building.

For more information, including vaccination guidelines, requesting exemptions, and program-specific guidance, please refer to the University's COVID Resource Center page. You will receive a blue and gray ribbon along with your diploma. The ribbon may be unstitched, pressed, and then arranged diagonally across a corner of the diploma, or the ribbon may be left as is and displayed in the lower left hand corner.

Though the degree is conferred, university policy dictates that any student with an unpaid balance will not be issued a diploma or transcript until the account is settled. For seniors, there will be special billings in March and April. Please check the status of your account in early May to make certain that your account is clear.

Highlights include departmental awards, several College-wide awards for outstanding seniors, the Bunn Award for Faculty Excellence and Bunn address, and the Cohonguroton address.

See the undergraduate bulletin for a full list of awards. Students being honored will receive invitations in the spring, but all students and families are welcome to celebrate their friends and classmates.

Generally, the top 10 percent of the Georgetown College graduating class is invited to join. Interested students need not apply, as all eligible candidates are invited in early-April. The College only holds one ceremony each year, in May. August graduates may participate in either the May ceremony immediately preceding their date of graduation or the May ceremony immediately following the completion of the degree.

Students who can demonstrate a plan to complete their remaining requirements up to 12 credits by August are eligible to participate in the May commencement ceremony preceding their graduation date.

August candidates participating in the May commencement ceremony preceding their graduation date have their names read as usual, integrated with the May graduates, but their names are not printed in the Commencement book. To participate in the ceremony that precedes your date of graduation, you should speak to your dean and confirm that your degree progress permits your participation.

August graduates will automatically be on mailing lists for both the May ceremony that precedes and the May ceremony that follows their degree completion.

No, if you are participating in the ceremony that precedes the date of your formal graduation. The program lists the names of students who have completed all degree requirements. Diplomas for August graduates are ordered in early September. Senior Week is managed by the Senior Class Committee , which can provide more details. August graduates may participate in the Senior Week that precedes or follows their graduation date, but may only participate once.

Ceremonies will be broadcast virtually for graduates, families, friends, and members of our community who are unable to attend in person.

School-specific Commencement information will continue to be updated with more details as they become available. Because of the online nature of Commencement, academic regalia is not required. A detailed description of the various types of graduate academic regalia is also on the Graduate School website for informational purposes prior to ordering. After May 23, an archived copy of the University main Commencement Ceremony will be available for viewing online at: TBD — link will be posted in late Spring.

What about the postponed event for the Class of ? We know members of our Class of may be eager to be together for a celebration on campus and that the progress of the pandemic has delayed your return longer than we originally anticipated.

As we look ahead, we see promising signs about the overall trajectory of the pandemic and the possibility of a return to our regular activities in the coming months. Our hope is to begin actively planning with the Class of and class representatives for a future gathering on campus to honor and celebrate your class. We will be in communication as soon as possible with further details.

Students will be receiving more information about these opportunities from their schools and programs in the coming weeks. These in-person opportunities will be for the graduates only. We regret we cannot invite families and guests to campus this year, and discourage anyone from outside of Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia from travelling to campus.

See the information elsewhere on this page, and in emails sent directly to graduating students.
