Whilst I purchase all my software legitimately, I think the onus is on the seller to ensure the safety of their income in an ethical and commercially viable manner - I do not think Nikon are acting in that way. Generalising, the state of play is already stacked against the user who actually buys a licence, rather than the goods, and I feel that this "lease" argument simply doesn't wash - the consumer is being treated by the vendor as though it's an outright purchase and warranties don't last indefinitely; either rent the software or sell it - I'm not comfortable with the one-sided middle ground.
